We are very disappointed to announce that we will not be able rejoin the activity this winter as anticipated. We assembled a great staff full of dedicated, hard-working individuals, each bringing a wealth of experiences to the table. We designed a fantastic program with some incredible music selections, and we had a fantastic facility to rehearse in with great support from within that facility.

Despite Eastside Fury’s long history of success in the activity—including being the first Michigan ensemble to bring home a national title—we were taken aback by the less-than-desirable turnout at each of our first two auditions this year. The numbers were not conducive to producing a successful, rewarding season for our membership. Fielding a successful group requires a lot of time and energy and is very expensive for both the group and the individuals paying to participate. The experience should be a positive and rewarding one. At the end of the day, everything we do is for the members. Seeing the low numbers, we determined that the ability to fill every vacancy would not be easy or achievable in a short timeframe. We did not want any of the kids who came to our auditions to miss other opportunities if things didn’t work out. It was not an easy decision to come to after all the work that was put in, but we had to look out for the kids and give them the best opportunity to find somewhere to march this season.

On a more positive note, we believe the sparse showing can be chalked up to the large number of great ensembles in this state including strong growth in the scholastic programs. Michigan has a great presence in the winter activity and always represents the state very well at the national level.

Thank you so much to those of you that came out to see what we had to offer this year. We had phenomenal things in store for this season that we wish we could have offered you. We wish each and every one of you the best of luck, wherever you end up. Make Michigan proud!
